Help with The Dwelling Lunch & Shower Ministry on our Day of Service 2021
We will be providing lunch and hosting the shower truck at The Dwelling at noon following their worship service on September 19th.
We need volunteers to help with lunch. If you can’t be there that day, you may choose to deliver underwear to our church ahead of time. We will have bins available at our HOMEcoming festivities on September 12th or you may deliver directly to The Dwelling on the day of the lunch.

Home Church has many organized opportunities for our members to show our love for Jesus by helping those in our community who may be experiencing difficult situations. Each of the following home mission/discipleship/outreach ministries welcomes and needs more volunteers. If you are interested in learning more or participating in any of the ministries, please contact the church office by email or call Jane Shore at 336-722-6171; she will have the appropriate person contact you.
H.O.P.E. (Help Our People Eat) – Home Church is continuing in its outreach to the “food deserts” of Winston-Salem by making lunches for children served by the H.O.P.E. (Help Our People Eat) program. We put together 200 bagged lunches for children every fourth Sunday before the church service. We need 10 volunteers for each month, and anyone is welcome to come and help. We meet at 8:45 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall and spend about 45 minutes putting the lunches together. Go to SignupGenius to sign up to help on Sunday, June 27. For more information, please contact Audrey Holmes at [email protected] or 336-250-1535.
CROP Walk – The Local CROPWalk is part of an annual national event that raises funds to help end worldwide hunger. The walk is held each October and many members support our Home Church Team by participating in the walk and/or donating funds. Part of the locally raised money is divided between Sunnyside and Crisis Control Ministries.
Diggs-Latham Partnership – Home Church began a partnership in 2011 with this public elementary school which is part of the WS/FC School System. The school is located about 12 blocks from the church. Volunteers help with tutoring, proctoring, serving special meals, helping with special events, etc. Members also collect school supplies and hold fundraisers to support special projects at the school. School staff members enjoy volunteering at Home Church Candle Tea each year. More volunteers are needed to help in all areas.
Forsyth Jail and Prison Ministry – Church and choir members as well as pastors participate in worship services on some Sunday evenings and also help with a variety of activities held for prisoners and their families. Home Church also financially helps support a chaplain position with this ministry.
Homeless Overflow Shelter – Along with a cluster of other churches our members help provide overnight lodging for homeless people during the coldest months of the year. The Overflow Shelter we work with is located at First Presbyterian Church during January, February and March and is for homeless men. Members help provide and serve dinner, help check the men in and serve as overnight monitors. Groups also donate funds for warm clothing.
Men of the Church – Members make and sell Moravian candles and use the proceeds from the candle sales to provide support to several agencies and special projects including Aids Care Services, Inc., Crosby Scholars Community, Diggs-Latham Elementary School, H.O.P.E., Laurel Ridge Camp Scholarships, Maggie Styers Missionary Fund, Moravian Friends of Prison Ministry, SECU Family House, Shepherd's Center and Sunnyside Ministry.
Samaritan Inn – Two weekends each year, Home Church members volunteer to help serve meals and stay overnight at the Samaritan Inn for the homeless. This is an ongoing ministry that is shared with other churches.
Saturday Night Fellowship – On the first Saturday of each month local churches offer a night of fellowship for downtown senior residents who live in low income housing. Home Church hosts the first Saturday in November and provides a Thanksgiving meal along with entertainment. Church members also help with transportation.
Sunnyside Monthly Food Needs – Church members donate food each week to support the Sunnyside Food Pantry. Many members volunteer to serve in Sunnyside’s food pantry, clothing closet and client intake.
Wachovia Gardens – Members help maintain a large vegetable garden near the church and give all of the vegetables to Sunnyside Ministry to distribute to their clients.
Women’s Fellowship – Members give time and resources to many local ministries including Christmas gifts for Sunnyside children, bingo prizes for Salemtowne residents, meals for SECU House, cakes for Forsyth Prison Ministry and birthday parties for Salemtowne residents. The Women’s Fellowship also sponsors the annual Candle Tea.
