Wachovia Gardeners are getting ready for the growing season. We worked all winter on several projects and are looking to you, brothers and sisters, for some assistance.
Does anyone have a brush chipper and be willing to chip some brush? We pruned all the fruit trees and would like to create some chips to put in the grape arbor and to make paths in the new butterfly garden.
We are creating a new butterfly garden, inspired by Kate Bell, monarch butterfly mother extraordinaire. It is located at the corner of Bank and Church Streets and we are looking for people who would like to help with this project. There are several opportunities to consider, including maintaining the plants, working on educational outreach (including the Salem Montessori School), and helping monarch butterflies make the life transition until they fly away. Linda Birdsong from the Montessori School is taking a lead role, but we need more advocates.
Bee hives have an important role at Wachovia Garden as pollinators and producers of honey. Tracy Lounsbury is the beekeeper. If you would like to learn more about honey bees, help manage the hives, purchase a package of bees, or spend some time hanging out in the apiary, contact our beekeeper, Tracy ([email protected]).
