Since February, the Community Engagement Team has been having conversations with Home Church members about hopes and concerns for both our congregation and our Forsyth County community.
We participated in a community-wide conversation on May 30, and were also paired with other institutions for conversations similar to the ones we’ve been having within Home Church.
The Team has been seeking understanding about what community challenges are most important to you, while exploring the possibility of Home Church joining the Forsyth Sponsoring Committee. The “Sponsoring Committee” is a new interfaith, multiracial group that is developing a new organization that can strengthen relationships while identifying ways to improve our community.
The Board of Elders has approved Home Church joining the Sponsoring Committee, and a donation to the Sponsoring Committee has been approved by the Benevolence Committee and the Board of Trustees.
What’s the next step for the Sponsoring Committee? Over the next several months, the Committee will continue reaching out to more churches and organizations to see if there’s enough interest to form a permanent group. If the permanent group does form, Home Church will then make a separate decision on whether to join the final organization. At the same time, the Committee is also setting up opportunities for conversation between the 23 groups that have joined so far.
If you are interested in participating in the cross-organization conversations, please let anyone on the Community Engagement Team know: Betsy Bombick, Dave Bombick, Karen Bell Chandler, Debbie Drake, Bob Hunter, John Mickey, Catherine Morse, Paul Morse, Ginny Tobiassen, Bob Veto and Martha Veto. We’d love to have you.
